Rev Dr Francis Harman AO Memorial Lectures
  Professors Evelyn and John Billings
Lyn and John are Professors of Natural Family Planning in the Institute. Both are graduates in Medicine from the University of Melbourne. Lyn studied paediatrics as a post-graduate in London, afterwards undertaking paediatric practice in Melbourne. She later became a Senior Demonstrator in Embryology and Histology within the Department of Anatomy of the University of Melbourne, and Assistant Physician to the Department of Community Medicine, St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne. She is Consultant Physician to the Natural Family Planning Council of Victoria and a member of the Executive of the World Organisation of Ovulation Method (Billings).

John is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He is Consulting Neurologist to St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, where he was Dean of the Undergraduate Medical School, within the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Melbourne. He developed an interest in natural family planning in 1953, undertaking clinical studies which led to the development of the 'Ovulation Method'. His book of that title, first published in 1964, is now in its 7th edition. In 1969 he was made a Papal Knight by Pope Paul VI.

Lyn and John have both lectured and published extensively on natural family planning, and have been awarded honorary doctorates by several universities. In 1991 they were both made a Members of the Order of Australia. They have nine children. In 2001 they lectured in JP547/647 Theology and Practice of Natural Family Planning in the Institute.
