Most Rev Denis J Hart, DD
Archbishop Hart is Archbishop of Melbourne and President of the Institute. Archbishop Hart studied for the priesthood at Corpus Christi College (1960-67), was ordained priest in 1967, and served in the parishes of North Balwyn, Cathedral, North Richmond and West Brunswick. From 1975 he was an Advocate and Notary of the Regional Matrimonial Tribunal. He was also long involved as Archdiocesan Prefect of Ceremonies and as Executive Secretary of the National Liturgical Commission.
In the latter rôle he was responsible for the preparation of many official editions of books for worship. From 1996 he was Vicar General and from 1997 Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, and held numerous posts in the Archdiocese and the wider Church. He was also a member of the Australian Catholic University. In 1998 he participated in the Vatican Synod for Oceania. In 2001 he was appointed Archbishop of Melbourne. In due course when the Institute is fully incorporated into the International Institute he will become one of the ten Vice-Grand-Chancellors around the world.
