Mrs Rita Joseph

Rita will lecture in the Institute on Family Policy and Politics. She has both a BA and a Bachelor of Letters from the University of Queensland and a Diploma of Education from the University of New England. She is now a Canberra-based writer on social issues, specialising in women's rights and the rights of the child before as well as after birth. Her work has been published internationally. She has represented the family at all major UN human rights conferences including Beijing and New York.

She has made a special study of all the Holy Father's writings on family and on women. In 1998 she completed a successful Australian lecture tour on "This Pope and Women". She recently addressed the Second International Congress of Families in Geneva on "Sexuality and the Family" which expounded the Catholic position against IVF, contraception and abortion, and the Church's support for fidelity, chastity and the dignity and integrity of the family. books including "The New Imperialism", "Empowering Women: Beijing Essays", and "The Family, Education, and Society". She is the mother of eleven children and a home-schooler. Rita is married to Dr Gerard Joseph and the mother of their eleven children. In 2003 she will assist with teaching JP562/662 Politics of Marriage, the Family and Life at the Institute.
