His Eminence, George Cardinal Pell
His Eminence, George Cardinal Pell is the Archbishop of Sydney, was the foundation President of the Institute in Australia and continues his association as Lecturer in Church History. He holds a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Urban University in Rome (1967), a Masters Degree in Education from Monash University (1982) and a Doctorate in Philosophy in Church History from Oxford (1971). Ordained a priest in 1966, he served as Rector of Aquinas College (now part of the Australian Catholic University) and Rector of Corpus Christi College before being ordained bishop in 1987. He was Archbishop of Melbourne from 1996 to 2001, and appointed Archbishop of Sydney in 2001. In 1998 the Prime Minister appointed him as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. He has been a member of the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and a Consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family. He is a Member of Central Commission, Chair of the Committee for Doctrine and Morals, and Secretary of the Committee for Education of the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference. He is a member of the Council for Episcopal Synods and has been a member of several international synods.. He has lectured extensively and his published works include "Issues in Faith and Morals" (1996) and "Catholicism and the Architecture of Freedom" (1999). He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Education and President of the Company of the Australian Catholic University.
