Professor Ron & Mrs Mavis Pirola OAM
Ron and Mavis are Adjunct Lecturers in Marriage Education in the Institute. They were active in Teams of Our Lady in the 1960s and played a significant role in the introduction of Marriage Encounter into Australia in 1973 and the Marriage Encounter Resource Programs in 1976. They have coordinated the Antioch Youth Movement since its introduction into Australia by their children in 1981. They have been Members of the Pontifical Council for the Family since its origin in 1983 and addressed the Synod on the Laity in Rome on the topic of 'family' in 1987. They coordinate the Pastoral and Matrimonial Renewal Centre and chair the Family Working Group of the Bishops' Committee for Family and for Life. Ron and Mavis have been married 42 years and have four children and seven grandchildren. In 2002 they took part in teaching JP564/664 Educating in Sexuality, Marriage, the Family and Life in the Institute, and will do so in future years.
