Relying upon the anthropology and ethic explored in previous courses, this course we will consider some current bioethical controversies such as: consent; truth-telling and confidentiality; the human genome project; organ procurement, transplantation and xenotransplantation; treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS; the allocation of healthcare resources; research upon human subjects; co-operation in ethically dubious practices and conscientious objection; and the distinctive identity of Catholic healthcare facilities and services.
