The importance of marriage and the family is disputed by no-one-although those working from a Christian understanding of the person, and those seeking radical transformations of human nature and society, disagree sharply about what is at stake. This course begins with a sociological stock-take of the current state of marriage and family life. It examines the psychological impact of factors such as divorce and family breakdown, and how this contributes to unbelief and confusion about values. Christian responses at the level of general social science and of pastoral care are considered, based on a theology of the human person and reconciliation.
