Office hours are ordinarily from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. Student Cards and Library Access Student identification and library cards will be provided at enrolment. These cards allow students access to the Mannix Library. Arrangements have also been made for access to the libraries at the Australian Catholic University and the Dominican House of Studies. The student card may bring discounts from some establishments.
Public Transport and Parking The John Paul II Institute is easily accessible by public transport. Trains, trams and buses along Victoria Parade or to within walking distance of the Institute are frequent.
By train: Alight at Parliament Station, then a short walk through the gardens or a Victoria Parade tram.
By bus: Buses from the City, Doncaster, Templestowe and LaTrobe University along the freeway pass the front door.
By tram: Routes 23, 24, 34, 42 and 109 all pass along Victoria Parade and stop outside the Institute. Routes 11, 12 and 31 can be alighted at the top of Brunswick Street, about 100m from the Institute.
Several public parking stations operate in the vicinity and there is considerable on-street parking available outside of peak periods.
Photocopying, Phones, Fax, Internet and Email Photocopy, phone, fax, email and internet facilities are all available. Students may obtain a PIN number for a photocopy account and access to the internet. Photocopying is also available in the library.
Books
Course readers are available from the Registrar. Required textbooks will be available from the Central Catholic Bookshop at 322 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, near St Francis’ Church; ph. (61 3) 9639 0844.
Food and drink There are many eateries and bars within easy walking distance of the Institute, ranging from high class restaurants and bistros to basic cafeterias and sandwich shops: a full list is available from the Registrar’s Office. Every style of food and drink is available.
Banks, Post Office, Pharmacy etc. All major services are available within easy walking distance of the Institute, including banking, post, pharmacy, stationery and travel agency within a block.
Doctor and Dentist
The Institute is very close to several major hospitals and medical centres. Students are expected to make their own arrangements. International students must obtain Overseas Student Health Cover, see the International Student Guide.
Housing and Accommodation The Institute does not provide housing for its students. The Institute is within walking distance of several hotels and other temporary accommodation. For clerical and religious students longer-term accommodation in presbyteries or religious houses may be arranged. The Dean will advise lay students on contacts with university colleges and housing agencies.
